Healthy Program

Nourishing Bodies & Minds With Nutritious Meals

Food is a big part of every child's day. At Nurtured Education & Care, our Healthy Program supports children's wellbeing through fresh meals, balanced choices, and positive food experiences. We want children to feel nourished, comfortable, and confident at mealtimes. Our menu is guided by NSW Health standards, the Australian Dietary Guidelines, and each child's individual needs, including allergies, intolerances, vegetarian requirements, cultural preferences, and comfort foods.

Our Food Philosophy

Health On The Daily, Not As A One-Off

Healthy eating here is not strict rules or pressure.

It is about variety, balance, comfort, and helping children build a positive relationship with food that can last long after they leave our centre.

Our meals are planned to support each child's growth, energy, focus, and wellbeing throughout the day. We also consider what children enjoy, what families value, and what each child may need to feel safe and settled at the table.

What We Serve

5 Fresh Meals, Thoughtfully Planned

Every day, children are offered five meals across the day, each planned to support their energy, comfort, and development.

Breakfast

Start the day the right way with a delicious bowl of cereal! Whether it's classic Weet-Bix, crunchy Corn Flakes or Rice Bubbles, there's a tasty breakfast to suit every little appetite.

Morning Tea

Light, fresh snacks that help keep children energised between play, learning, and outdoor time. A favourite is our Natural Muesli Slice served with fresh fruit.

Lunch

A balanced main meal with protein, vegetables, and wholegrains to support growing bodies and active minds. One example is our Mushroom and Lentil Risotto served with broccoli and peas.

Afternoon Tea

Nutritious bites to help children feel satisfied and ready for the rest of the day. A popular choice is Wholemeal Zaatar Focaccia with vegetable sticks.

Late Snack

Simple, gentle options for longer days, helping children stay comfortable until pick-up.

Meals are prepared on-site by our qualified chef using fresh ingredients, a rotating seasonal menu, and recipes children naturally enjoy. We cater for allergies, intolerances, vegetarian requirements, cultural needs, and comfort foods so every child has a safe and satisfying option.

Guided By Expert Standards

Approved, Safe & Considered

Our approach to food is shaped by care, safety, and expert guidance. We follow NSW Health Munch & Move principles, the Australian Dietary Guidelines, and allergy management protocols to help make mealtimes safe, balanced, and positive.

NSW Health & Munch & Move principles We support balanced eating, active play, water drinking, and healthy habits through everyday routines.
Australian Dietary Guidelines Our menu includes a variety of nutrients across the week, helping children enjoy balanced meals from different food groups.
Allergy Management Protocols We use clear labelling, separate preparation where needed, and staff training to help keep children safe.
Mealtimes As Learning Moments

More Than Just "Eating Time"

Mealtimes are part of the curriculum. They give children the chance to learn independence, practise manners, build social skills, try new foods, and listen to their bodies.

01

Independence & Life Skills

Children learn to serve themselves when developmentally ready, pour water, make choices, tidy their space, and try new foods with gentle support.

02

Nutrition Education

We talk about food groups in simple, child-friendly ways. Children learn about "everyday" foods, "sometimes" foods, drinking water, and noticing when they feel hungry or full.

03

Social & Emotional Development

Around the table, children practise turn-taking, conversation, patience, gratitude, and respect for other people's food choices.

All of this happens in a calm, supervised environment, with children seated safely while they eat and educators nearby to support them.

Partnering With Families

Working Together For Healthy Habits

You see one side of your child's eating. We see another. That is why communication with families matters. We keep you informed about what your child is eating, what they are enjoying, and any foods they may be unsure about. We support families by:

sharing menus so you know what your child is being offered;

sending photos or updates of mealtimes and new foods tried;

offering ideas and recipes that reflect meals children enjoy here; and

supporting you with strategies for fussy eating and positive food habits at home.

We also welcome family input. If your child has cultural food needs, comfort foods, allergies, intolerances, or preferences, we want to know. The more we understand, the better we can support them.

what parents say about their experience with us

Families often tell us how reassuring it feels to know their child is eating well during the day. Sometimes the biggest wins are small ones.
